Don’t make yourself sick with a negative placebo effect!

Don’t make yourself sick with a negative placebo effect!

Can one get ill by worrying too much?

To answer this question, we have to explain what a placebo is and define the negative placebo effect.

Wikipedia defines placebo as follow:

“A placebo is an inert substance or treatment which is designed to have no therapeutic value. Common placebos include inert tablets (like sugar pills), inert injections (like saline), sham surgery, and other procedures.”

In many studies of new medicines following procedure is done. Three groups of people are chosen.

The first group is the group which has some illness, for example, cancer. This group does not get this new medicine. This group is called the control group.

The second is people with the same illness, but this group will get access and treatment with the new medicine.

A third group is a group that also has the same illness, and they believe that they are getting new medicine, but the fact is that they are only getting a placebo. The “medicine” which they get has not a proven effect on their illness.

Studies show that many new medications fail to get approved because the group that gets the placebo shows a good recovery (not all of them) results as those who get real medication.

The placebo effect has been proven, and there is no dispute about it. However, scientists cannot explain why. This effect is called the placebo effect.

When people are thinking and worried about an illness, they finally get a specific illness just because they are so focused on the illness. The reason for this is the fact that one unknowingly falls into a negative placebo effect.

The same way the body can heal itself when this effect is used, the body can get ill as well if a negative placebo effect is applied.

Does it sound crazy to you? Why do I write this article? In this difficult time with the pandemic, people are so focused on difficulties that they may get ill even with all their percussion.

There is disinformation, misinformation, and in between information about the coronavirus. Disinformation often is used to achieve a purpose. For instance, some groups selling vinegar start a rumor that vinegar has a positive effect on people who get ill from a coronavirus. This false news is disinformation, which is aimed to sell vinegar to people. The same goes if people claim that some medication is dangerous for coronavirus. The party who will benefit is the competitor who is selling a similar medication.

Misinformation is about the fact that people who are spreading the information don’t have a plan, yet the information they provide is wrong. This often happens because people want to help.

Of course, information is available out there as well.

Let me give you an example of disinformation.

The picture above shows a military convoy.

I don’t want to provide the source, although I have found the source; Anyway, the picture is used in a news site, and the following information is written in small text under the picture:

“A convoy of Italian military vehicles reportedly being used to transport bodies of coronavirus fatalities for burial, March 19, 2020 (YouTube screenshot)”.

What is wrong with this picture?

Fact: The cargo volume of a military truck is about 80-90 cubic meters. Somewhere in this area.

Fact: in the picture, you can see around 15-20 trucks.

Fact: The average human body has a mass of about 62 kg or 62,000 grams. That means the average volume of a human is about 62,000 cubic centimeters. This mean average body has 0,062-meter cubic.

Ok, let’s now count how many bodies these trucks can carry.

A truck cargo volume is divided by the average human body volume, which gives us 80/ 0,062; each truck can carry 1290 average human bodies. Since we have 15 truck 15×1290 gives a total of 19350.

Of course, there is some loss of space, but even if one can carry ¼ of the total volume, each truck can carry about 322 bodies. In total, 15 trucks should be able to carry 4837.

Another thing is that all the people who have died are not collected in one place. This is spread around complete Italy, so the conclusion I can make is that they are either using these vehicles very inefficiently. It means that every truck is carrying a few bodies, or this is false information.

In the end, I would like to point that what I write here is not to convince you. I simply provide information and what you will do with it is up to you. Be consciences, don’t be judgmental, and try to remember one can always learn. I leave you all in the love and the light of the One Infinite Creator. Go forth, therefore, rejoicing in the power and the peace of the One Creator.
